Novel, efficient and sustainable magnetic materials for energy production and for future refrigeration
Functional materials, and especially magnetic materials, are fundamental for the development of several technologies applied to automotive industry, data elaboration and production/transmission of electrical energy. These applications require magnetic materials exhibiting excellent physical and microstructural characteristics and accurately measured properties.
INRIM has long been active in studying the physics of magnetisation processes and in developing novel measuring techniques required for the investigation of new functional materials, like magnetocaloric materials used in magnetic refrigeration.
Fundamental research in the field of magnetic quantities metrology (magnetic field, magnetic polarisation) is driven by the relevance of technological applications of magnetism and by the broad diffusion of magnetic sensors. Research activity is complemented by magnetic measurements and testing for industry and international round-robin comparisons.
