Innovation and technological development are increasingly based on knowledge in our society.
Through the Department of Innovation and Metrology Services, INRIM provides measurement traceability and supports the applications of metrology and measurement science in industry and society. Selected applied research and technology-based projects in the field of electrical, mechanical and thermodynamic measurements are developed.
Applied research for the industry ranges from designing novel measurement methods and procedures down to their field demonstration. The development of new technologies and measurement methods is brought forward at the point where the technological readiness levels corresponding to validation in the relevant environment (TRL=5).
INRIM plays an active role in the pre-normative and normative area, leading national and international standardization working groups, including projects and initiatives associated with Industry 4.0.
