National Plan for the Development of Quantum Technologies has been adopted, marking an important step forward in strengthening the country's competitiveness and security. The new Italian Strategy for Quantum Technologies aims to enhance research, promote industrial innovation and strengthen technological skills.
The Strategy was developed by a group of experts and institutional representatives established by the Ministry of University and Research (MUR), including Davide Calonico, Scientific Director of INRiM. It is the result of collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy, the Department for Digital Transformation (DTD) of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, and the National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN).
The Strategy is part of the European Declaration on Quantum Technologies, signed by Italy, and is aligned with the objectives of the recently published Quantum Europe Strategy, which includes the proposal for a European Quantum Act by 2025.
The Italian approach aims to develop a sustainable national quantum ecosystem capable of supporting the country's digital and technological transition, enhancing scientific research, start-ups, and industrial applications
The implementation of the Strategy will be monitored by the Standing Committee on Quantum Technologies, which is responsible for defining operational priorities in a constantly evolving technological and geopolitical context.
